The advantage of monday.com over every other project management tool

It’s wonderful and humbling to see how monday.com is making such a difference in people’s lives. Every day we get amazing feedback on how people are transforming their businesses and the way they work. This is making their teams happier, and that makes us happy.

I’ve written a bit in the past about why monday.com is so different from every other project management tool on the market, but to really understand it, I think it’s important to get a handle on two very big changes that are happening in the world today. In this post, I’ll cover the first: speed.

Everything these days is fast, and you need to be fast.

In the age of information, we’ve entered an era of speed. Only 10 years ago, software was still distributed on disks in six to twelve-month cycles. That’s all changed with the rise of SaaS solutions. Today, we deploy new versions of monday.com up to 10 times a day. Customer feedback has also taken on a new level of importance, and companies must respond in minutes (as opposed to months) to requests, questions, and complaints. Finally, the explosion of mobile devices and apps has made technology accessible everywhere we go, 24/7, accelerating our pace even more.

This trend of speed has forced businesses and teams to dramatically change how they manage their day-to-day work. A long chain-of-approval can no longer be the process through which all decisions are made. If there’s an issue, the company needs to respond now. And when software deployment cycle time drops to zero, again, a strict hierarchy of management can’t oversee and approve everything. Managers frequently don’t even know something’s happening until it’s over.

So how can a team, even a very large one, cope with this need for speed while still ensuring a high level of performance? The answer is transparency: everyone on the team needs access to information to make decisions, not just managers.

Over the past 10 years we’ve seen a huge shift towards a culture of transparency in the workplace. Managers and organizations now understand that hiding information—whether it’s metrics, KPIs, goals, or plans—hurts them. Employees at all levels are expected to think big and contribute to the overarching goal of the company, not just tick the boxes on their individual job descriptions.

We see an amazing openness from companies to adopt a culture of transparency, but the thing is, it actually takes a lot of effort and willingness to break tradition. Usually, they don’t have the proper tools. It’s not a debate of “yes” or “no,” but a question of “how?”

People turn to project management tools to sync their team and get everyone on the same page, but the problem is, most traditional tools are intrinsically isolating. You can’t see how your tasks fit into the bigger picture, and it’s nearly impossible to see in one place what everyone else is working on. Even when employees do have access to information, it’s not always easy to make sense of it. So, well-intentioned managers try to solve the problem by overloading everyone with information in ways that are cumbersome, time-consuming, and boring: meetings, emails, chat, reports, and any and every other possible way to convey information in a way that’s helpful.

The project management tool becomes an inflexible black box that just lists work; all the actual work ends up being done outside the tool. That’s not helpful.

Above all, this is the advantage of monday.com: we break that barrier and provide effortless transparency for your team. It’s a place to plan, coordinate, and communicate with your team, all in one place.

monday.com is totally visual, so you don’t need to read a long update to know exactly where things stand—one glance at a board is all it takes. It acts as a bridge for your team— a fun, flexible, customizable bridge— connecting everyone in real-time and allowing you to work however you want. Above all, we empower you to do it quickly and with little to no effort.

Here at monday.com as our team rapidly grows, our product allows us to be big, fast, and flexible. We’re committed to the philosophy of loosely coupled, highly aligned, and monday.com allows us to do it. We don’t use internal email, and we keep meetings to a minimum. We’re all clear on what the big picture is and how our work contributes towards that goal. Transparency empowers the smart people who work here to make decisions for themselves without having to go through a long chain of approval (if any)—and most importantly, it allows us to work quickly.

The value of this is enormous, and it will probably only increase. The bigger and more distributed a team, the more they’ll gain from a simple solution that provides transparency and updates them in real-time about what matters.

No other tool in the world has this value at its core, and I’m proud to have it built into the DNA of our product and mission.
